GPS Jamming devices: FCC says No!

The FCC has become concerned about Jamming devices for Cellphones, GPS and WiFi.  So much so, they have released Enforcement Advisory No. 2012-02, which specifies fines in excess of $100,000 per incident.

That clears that up.

I was talking to a local freebander last week. He mentioned a cb'er running too much wattage w/o much filtering who'd been contacted by the FCC for shutting down wi-fi links in his hometown with his flamethrower. When the guy said the cb'er was threatened w/ a 100 k fine,I thought he was mistaken? The specs of this new reg explains it.

I am active on all amateur radio bands through 24 GHz (with 47 GHz on the way). Hopefully my signals on 902 MHz and above don't cause any inadvertent interference to cell phones, GPS and Wi-Fi.

Fortunately my favorite operating place for microwave bands is on a hilltop in the middle of the vast farmland, 10 miles from the nearest small town. I cause no interference to my own cell phone but on 1296 MHz I wipe out my own GPS unit. But that's just a few feet away.

Personally, I think every teacher should be legally allowed to use a cellphone jammer during class time.

I'm more interested in wiping out GPS. 

But the FCC needn't worry about it-- I plan to do it over an area of only about 3600 square miles.
