DX heard from South Africa
« on: May 15, 2020, 1555 UTC »
Hi all

Been doing hf monitoring for many years . Got a Icom 7600 , Icom IC -R8500 and lots of differant antennas .
Want to share some of my local dx in and around ZS i can hear.

I can hear all the normal beacons like The Pip , Slotmachine etc .

5440 khz Portugese stations around 15h00 UTC till 16H00  . They call each other , then send some data for 25 seconds , some wideband mode , 2.5 khz wide on spectrum display , when no is is using channel it seems like there is a weak cw station transmitting very poor morse code.

Instead of it being a beacon it might be a channel marker / place holder for RTTY or some service like that, especially since it is USB and not CW

Edit: I found a very old mid-90's SPEEDX list that had this:

5093 SOFIA, BULGARIA LZJ2 CONTINUOUS
