Zenith H500 Restoration needed......
« on: June 09, 2020, 2059 UTC »
I was very recently browsing through an antique store and picked up a Zenith H500 Transoceanic receiver for $80.00,  It's in pretty good shape,  powers up and the MW band works fine but there is quite a bit of circuitry and cosmetic work that needs to be done.  I checked YOUTUBE and rather quickly  came to the conclusion that my best bet will be to  "let the pros handle it" when it comes to restoration.  As such, I can't think of a better place than HF UNDERGROUND to request any information/suggestions on reliable restorers offering this type of service for hire.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I swear by Kevin.  He handles what I can't do, including wooden cabinets.  He worked on two tube Zenith T/O's for me and about a half dozen radios in total.  Rates are very reasonable.  I first became acquainted with him 15-20 years ago while he was an employee for a guy who since closed shop.  He takes items that are shipped, I usually drive the 3 hour round trip to drop off/pick up.  I will caution not to be in a rush to get it back.  He gets a lot of work because of his ability and rates, I usually find it is 6 months after I drop off.  Generally, I make a drop off every 2-3 years.

Don -

I brought a radio to the place, in the link I included above, in April.  I mentioned it could be 6 months for turn around.  In addition, I carted 2 of my friend's units with me for the drop off.  I received a call yesterday, all three pieces completed in 2 months.

Thanks CT but I sent Kevin an email back on June 10th.  Still no response.   Maybe he only works drop-offs.
