David counts himself among the shortwave dial twisters. While no one knows the exact number of shortwave listeners in the United States, most estimates place the number in the millions.
SWL’s range from teenagers to retired persons to David Letterman (CBS Comedian and star of The Late Show) who has mentioned several occasions how much he enjoys listening to shortwave, particularly broadcasts by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) - On the Late Late ShowNovember 1995 with Tom Snyder, Letterman in an interview expressed his fascination for
his hobby short wave radio listening.
David Letterman and Hal Gurnee, director and supervising producer of the Late Show, share an interest in old-time radio, especially the old programs. Letterman is a frequent shortwave
listener as well. Both he and Gurnee have LOWE HF-150 receivers. (models made in England) partially scripted from Intro to Shortwave Listening & Wikipedia. ...http://www.oldqslcards.com/Letterman.pdf

I saw that clip a few months ago and thought it was pretty neat.  He seemed to know a bit about shortwave, even know the frequency for RHC.  George HW Bush was also a SWL.  There's a picture out there that has a shortwave radio in his bedroom.
Default RX location is Wisconsin using various wire antennas. Other RX will be noted.

I bet many of those born during or in the few decades after WWII dabbled with Shortwave radio listening, being that it was a mainstay of radio before network television became ever more adopted as the common household portal to the world.
