Where there's smoke...
« on: September 14, 2020, 1714 UTC »
Smoke from the west coast wildfires have made it here to Chicago.  This morning there was a decidedly blood-red sunrise, and now there's is a noticeable pallor to the noon sky.

Same here in Maryland, the sky has a bit of a light grey haze.

Pretty thick brownish haze here in Virginia as I drove out to Winchester.  The shadows were definitely muted. Is there a smoke particle RF absorption?  It's about 20-25k feet.

Its been like that here in Minneapolis as well. The GOES satellite photos sure are interesting with the spread of the smoke.

Another chilly morning here in MD, 43 for the low. Only 64 for the high yesterday. Highs in the low 70s today and tomorrow, then mid and even low 60s Fri-Mon. I picked a good time to make a big batch of chicken soup with homemade stock. I'll be grinding some brisket this weekend & make low carb meatballs.

NWS State College had this to say about the smoke in their morning discussion:

Quote
The mainly clear
(except for the smoke) sky will continue today. The smoke has
clearly (pun) affected the daytime temperatures these last few
days, keeping the temperatures about 3-5F below the national
blend and MOS guidance.

Most times & frequencies posted are only an approximation.
Due to adulteration of the E.N.I.G.M.A. "designators" they're never posted nor ever used.

They have been underestimating on the forecast high temps recently...
maybe the computer models have not factored in the smoke.
