2044 UTC OM with ID....CQDW? , into "Hard Times/Love Action"-Human League (per Shazam)
(Killer Signal here banging in at S9+ with excellent USB audio!)
2049 UTC OM intro "I'll try it again....." followed by "Destination Unknown"-Missing Persons
2053 UTC OM with ID "CQEW" (I think that's it!), into "Major Tom"-Paul Schilling
2057 UTC OM with "The Spirit of Radio", into "Space Age Love Song"-Flock of Seagulls
2101 UTC OM with "CFNY The Spirit of Radio"...high atop the CFNY ? , into "Witness the Change"-Pete Shelley
2106 UTC OM with "This is CQEW The Spirit of Radio", into "Cars"-Gary Numan
2110 UTC OM DJ, into "Tainted Love"-Soft Cell (signal dropped down to just above the noise floor during the song)
2114 UTC Spoken word I didn't quite get, into "Taschenrechner"-Kraftwerk
2121 UTC OM with "CQEW The Spirit of Radio", into "Fascination(Keep Feeling)"-Human League (Had to retune....bit of a frequency drift. Also some peskies yakking on the frequency now)
2126 UTC Signal deep in the noise now  :(
2128 UTC Sounds like an old radio clip now with a Dr. Pepper advertisement
2129 UTC "Dance Hall Days"-Wang Chung (bits of audio but enough to ID this song!

Very interesting broadcast CQEW! Back in 1985 I sent a report to a Canadian pirate station calling themselves COAX Radio. They replied with a nice letter and Polaroid of the xmtr setup! They also sent along a couple of stickers from a local FM outlet where they knew the DJ. Here's a picture of that sticker!

Here's something I found on a google search: "....the station began using "The Spirit of Radio" as a promotional catchphrase. In turn, listeners of the station began to refer to CFNY as "The Spirit of Radio". Canadian band Rush was unable to obtain airplay on many radio stations other than CFNY early in their career, and in 1979 wrote the song "The Spirit of Radio" about the station. Unable to mention CFNY directly for fear of alienating airplay on other stations, the band instead ensured the catalogue number for their album Permanent Waves was 1021, a nod to the station's 102.1 FM frequency."

Here's a link to my recording before the band went long! Would be very grateful of receiving an eQSL!  :)

SIO 232    SINPO 24222

2110 UTC Tainted Love by Soft Cell

2121 ID

2124 Fascination by The Human League

Then into the noise.

Wondered if maybe a Canadian pirate "C" of CQEW, then location is somewhere around or along the "QEW" between Buffalo and Toronto. Just a thought.

Hope this report helps some.
