Angry fishermen 6870 USB 1143 UTC 11 AUG 2021
« on: August 11, 2021, 1250 UTC »
Not sure if our friends the Angry Bahstads or someone else, but two fishermen in a QSO talking about the biz, with the requisite amount of profanity thrown in. Sounded like a northeast US / New England accent of some sort. Very good signals here.

That's really cool. I haven't heard any offshore fisherman speaking English in forever. Guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time. I miss the ship to shore stuff too. Any other frequency suggestions for this type of activity? I will make note of 6870 and scan that general area in the evening. Thanks

They have been on with QSOs the past few days. Talking about their catches, and the usual complaining.

Unpredictable timing, you just need to leave a receiver parked on 6870 USB, running in the background, and wait.

6870 USB 1450 UTC 16 SEP 2021

These guys have been on a lot on-and-off this morning... Complaining about catch totals etc.

I have noticed they whistle into the mic when they call each other.... Could be to kick off an autotuner, or maybe just to get the other's attention.

I checked my SDR recordings, and sure enough at them on 16 SEP 2021 at 1625 UTC on 6870 USB. Good to hear them again.

I believe they do use whistling to call each other.

Back again 17 SEP 2021 at 0019 UTC also.
