the 4094 mystery
« on: November 21, 2021, 0048 UTC »
Not every night but 2-3 times per week I hear the 4094 beacon.  Or should I say
I hear a couple of different formats.  One is a slow dasher and the other is the letter Q sent repeatedly.
I have also received messages in CW that seem to be sent to no specific person.  These messages
sometimes describe the beacon etc. . The speed is some where around 10 wpm but I can accurately say
a straight key is being used not a keyer with a paddle.

I'm going to try and have a cw qso with the operator some time. That might be pretty interesting.

73 and good dxing the dark side of radio.

I tried the home receiver and some SDRs. Only got a weak signal on the KFS omni. A few times I heard a very clear morse "Q" but my ears and the waterfall seemed to show some weaker cw code also on frequency

Q5 copy in Colorado I have been listening to Q and H..time was 2350 utc..
The NUT sdr had both Q and H solid.
Got a land line today telling me that the old 4094 beacon was being experimented with regarding QRP
as an ID and the operator has now decided a single letter would be best. So Q it is..
The beacon can switched into a dash mode.

That about all I know .

Hearing a "Q" right now (0400Z) on 4094.02.
Actually, have a trifecta of "Q", "DW" and "H" with Windy nowhere to be heard.

Windy seems to be having battery issues today. Right now it is sending "S" about 1 minute apart.
