HLG & HLW Telecom Korea, 8MHz CW?
« on: November 16, 2021, 0837 UTC »
Has any of our valued listeners recently heard:

8.484.0MHz  CW  HLG  Telecom Korea 24hrs marine marker beacon, Seoul.
8.636.0MHz  CW  HLW Telecom Korea 24hrs marine marker beacon, Seoul.

Haven't heard either for many days, thought it may be propagation but I am hearing China, Greece and Turkey on 8MHz CW quite well.  The other Telecom Korea 12, 16, & 17MHz signals coming in fine.

Please post date/time UTC and report, if heard, thank you. ;D

Last log I have for any of the HL* CW stations was on 9 November when I had HLO on 12843kHz. The last time I logged HLW on 8636 was on 14 September and HLG on 8484 was 17 September 2021.

Thank you Marcy and HF Radio Hunter, I really think the 8MHz channels are off air, very unusual not to hear them but the Chinese and Japanese marine CW are coming in on 8MHz.

SVO and TAH in Greece and Turkey respectively have revised some of their marine CW marker/beacons too with a couple not heard for a long time.  CW may slowly be on the way out I think. :'(

A check this evening (24 Nov 0240-ish UTC) using some remote receivers shows Korean activity on:

12843.0 -- HLO
12916.5 -- HLF
12923.0 -- HLW2
12935.0 -- HLG
22611.5 -- HLF

No sign of anything on 8MHz, as you said.

Thanks Macy, they only vanished about three weeks ago, maybe Telecom Korea have the 8MHz transmitters down for maintenance or they have discontinued their 8MHz service.

All others on 12, 16 & 22MHz as per normal.
