Radio Progreso 640 AM 0714 UTC 6 Jan 2022

KFI 640 in Los Angeles signed off right at 11 p.m. Pacific last night for a rare maintenance break. After a few minutes to fine-tune my indoor loop and spin my radio and loop on its lazy Susan, I heard Radio Progreso from Cuba up here in Lake Stevens, Washington. Only interference was a little splash from local KCIS 630. Progreso had lots of Cuba/Latin music and then, after 0730 UTC, some sort of Spanish-language soap opera.

This was not my first logging of Progreso on 640, but it was nice to hear them without KFI on top. At more than 2,700 miles, this is still my best DX catch.

Hey Treehouse,

CMLA /R. Prgesresso is one of my favorite Dx targets here .It shows up  ( "at times") fair or better in my apt on Select- A Tenna. Usually weak though.

The competition here on 640  is regional WNNZ, but it's not a problem too  often .

Also a few months back I FINALLY heard 640  CBN Newfoundland- a station I've been  trying to copy for over 50 years !

I vacation each year  on Cuttyhunk Island in Buzzard's  Bay , MA . MANY Cubans easily copied there , even in Summer. CMLA bombs in all the time down there. All kind of other long dx as well.

640 is a GREAT frequency to Dx  , no matter where you are.

Most of my  "serious" Dxing is  done below 900 Kc .

FWIW , a new    larger  home brew bedside loop  is around 75% done. 4 gang ceramic  var cap, ball drive, etc.
