Sked for Saturday RTTY / SITOR transmissions at
https://www.radiomarine.org/mrhs-operationsis off by 1 hour for UTC. Transmission starts at 1100 PST = 1900 UTC, not 1800 UTC. I suspect
the web page was posted during DST and not updated; looks like their operations run on
local Pacific time, not UTC.
Sig was noisy but I copied ~70% for 3 hours of marine nx and wx for Mates, Masters, and Pilots
on RTTY. At 2200 UTC that was repeated using SITOR. I could not decode the SITOR using fldigi
(OpMode / Navtext / SITORB) but did a quick search and found that YaND (Yet another Navtext Decoder),
which I have installed, would decode the SITOR so switched to that and again got ~70% good
decodes. By ~0000 UTC, 12585.5 was fading out but 6324.5 kHz was beginning to fade in and
I copied that for a while. One of the nx stories was an advisory that piracy, armed robbery, and
kidnapping for ransom, of ships is on the increase in and near the Gulf of Guinea including Cameroon,
Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Sao Tome and Principe, and Gabon.
This is a weekly event and a good opportunity to try out RTTY and SITOR decoders.
