RADIO X 6939.400 kHz AM 03:50 UTC 11 JANUARY 2022

Post from Broadcast Announcements:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91510.msg292492.html#msg292492

03:50 UTC - Nothing heard at this time from my location.
03:56 UTC - Weak and unreadable via the HFU 120 ft T2FD KiwiSDR. Agree, this is a poor choice of frequency due to the LINK 11 UTE on 6942.0 kHz.

Good Evening,

It is a CW transmission.
I am currently "rock bound" to 6940, it is the only crystal I have on hand at the moment that is in the 6920 - 6990 range.
The xmtr is a GRC-109 putting about 10 watts into a 100' wire up about 20'.

Best Regards,
Rex

study up on crystal grinding , and then try your hand at grinding it up to a usable freq..

I've tried crystal grinding before but never had much luck.  I'm going to double check my xtal stash.  I have quite a few that are in the 4000 - 5000 kHz range, I may have one in that range that would work.  Can always check on "fleabay" too :D

i used to grind them dry on a flat diamond steel (knife sharpener) and wipe down with alcohol ..

don't know if anyone followed up on this ---
-
This was a question on the Mil Surplus mailing list:
Has anyone tried using the GRC-109 on AM ?  I notice its cathode keyed  though the osc and pa are keyed together. I further notice that the 10 pin keyer  socket with its plug shorts the osc and pa cathode together, so, using another  plug one could ground the osc cathode separately while then cathode modulating  the pa. Also, on the same plug the pa screen volts are accessible, so the pa  could be screen modulated.
 Has anyone tried this ?

hell - i had to look the rig up on the net to refresh my memory of what it is - got one or two in my collection of mil stuff along with tons of other various things

73 meters would be a much better choice this time of the night.  With the proliferation of cheap DDS kits on ebay, ditch the rocks.  Much better frequency stability and infinite frequency choices.

BTW if this is to turn into a technical discussion, it should probably be moved to the workbench forum.
