AM Rally this weekend 2/5-7/2022!
« on: February 01, 2022, 2039 UTC »
http://www.amrally.com/    This is always a fun one. ARRL doesn't seem to mention this, yet, for this year. Question is, will this week's CME squash propagation from 40M, on up. Tech Class can still get-in on this with 6M 50.40MHz AM. I use to do +40 miles on 20W with a Kenwood TS-60S with a 6M Halo. 2M AM can be had, albeit no one seems to have a good AM spot for there, but more locally 'try & see', like 144.300MHz AM. And, if there's some Tropo, even better. 73!!!!
I was asked, yet another weird question, of how I would like to be buried, when I finally bite the big one. The answer was actually pretty easy. Face-down, like a certain historical figure in the late 1980's, (I will not mention who, but some of you will get it, and that's enough.) Why??? It would be a burial that will satisfy everyone: (1) My enemies will say that it will show me where to go. (2) On the same point, I can have my enemies kiss my butt. (3) It will temporarily give someone a place to park a bicycle. See??? A WIN / WIN for everyone.

I was just about to say the same thing 'Be there with my 25 watts' ! I made about 6 or 7 QSO's last year, just operating casually. I noticed there was still activity about 5 days after the event, but then it quickly dropped down to nothing. I don't typically monitor AM portions on HF, so there's probably still some active groups that I'm not aware of. Good luck!

Around ~3775KHz to ~3885KHz has AM activity most nights.

Unlike quick contacts in a contest, when it comes to some of the 160/80 AM crowds, be prepared for lengthy broadc… er, I mean transmissions. ;)

Yes, usually around 14335, 14340 kHz or wherever I see a AM signal.

Hearing a QSO now on 7.295 (0:33). I figured there would be some guys getting their gear ready for tomorrow. My noise level is quite high on 40M

AM activity on 7285 and 7290 at at ~0117z.

Figured I might see a little AM activity on 160m tonight. CW, digital, and SSB activity noted currently on 160m, but no AM thus far. Maybe later.

AM activity on 3880 and 3890 at 0513z, though QSOs instead of the contest.

Anyone here participate or even spot rally activity? I have not followed the lower amateur bands, where I suspect more of the AM activity was, much at all this weekend.

All of my 25 contacts where on 40 meters in the eastern states. I heard other reports of 20 meters and 15 meters being open but I had no luck on those bands. One of the biggest signals on 40 meters was from K8JLY who operates 1930's vintage equipment. He is located in Ohio and operates out of the Historic Smith Mill which he owns. I was amazed how strong his signal was and how good his audio sounded. All in all it was fun event.

Re: AM Rally this weekend 2/5-7/2022! A bust, for me.
« Reply #12 on: February 09, 2022, 1851 UTC »
The weather was the big competitor during the AM Rally for me. Projects that I wasn't able to get done the preceding weekend, I had to get done, then. So, I had only a 1hr window on Sunday evening and heard 3870kHz, 3873kHz, 3880kHz, and 3885kHz, AM all jammin' away. I didn't hear W1AW this year. No AM on 20M, but all SSB. 15M and 10M were dead by me. I heard a one-side QSO on 7290kHz. I also did a quick band-scan at 3AM SAT night / SUN morning, after work, and the bands were void of any AM then. Whelp... There's always the year after next.
I was asked, yet another weird question, of how I would like to be buried, when I finally bite the big one. The answer was actually pretty easy. Face-down, like a certain historical figure in the late 1980's, (I will not mention who, but some of you will get it, and that's enough.) Why???
