HM01 - new digital mode in use?
« on: February 21, 2022, 0520 UTC »
I wonder if I'm lucky enough to have stumbled on a new development during its inaugural broadcast. Sadly it's not strong on this recording (it was SIO 555 at the start during the number counting), but it sounds almost like DRM. This was the 0500 UTC / 10860 AM transmission. There was no repeat during the second half hour.

EDIT: Yes, it's DRM - winDRM that is. Here's a video of my reception from the 0600z/10345 kHz broadcast of 21 FEB 2022, including the full run of number groups prior to the numbers/digital mode portion (skip ahead to about the 3:30 mark for that). This transmission DID include the repeat in the second half hour.

EDIT 2: I'd emailed Ary Boender about this and he informed me that the switch to winDRM occurred on 2/10. So I'm a bit behind the times. :)

Interesting to note, I was emailing Ary Boender back and forth about this, and he shared with me his logs since 2/10 which, through 2/20, showed absolutely unique number groups and files every single day. No repeats of number groups save the counting digit, no repeats of files until an old one is replaced as the counting digit reaches 7, 8, or 9 while those with lower numbers remain unchanged, and no complete repetitions as has been the case from late 2018 through January 2022. EXCEPT.... that today, 2/21, the exact same number groups and files are being repeated, just as was routine for the date range I listed. Ary tunes into the 1600z 11435 kHz broadcast every day, so it's definitely a full repeat. He posted these observations to UDXF (I don't have a link).

FWIW those number groups and file names for 20 and 21 FEB are:

Groups: 08377 60161 66338 06129 21004 54514

Thanks. I find it interesting that he's using the former name (SK01) to describe them now, since according to Priyom, SK01 sent ONLY files in RDFT mode without any voice. The HM01 refers to the hybrid mode of phone and digital mode. (There was once a station with the designation of HM02 which combined FSK and CW, but that's been inactive for years.) Why he wouldn't retain the HM01 name, I couldn't say. Usually when there's a change, the ENIGMA folks attach a lower-case letter a to the name (e.g. HM01a). Guess we'll see what they decide. Thanks again.

EDIT: I wrote back to Ary about that, he said SK01 used winDRM which I never knew. This has been the learning experience for me.

Some updates.... HM01 with new number groups and files starting on 2/24 at 1600z (though tx wasn't strong enough to receive files until 2100z on 16180):
10458  73387  67662  06311  65374  10341
80141045.TXT  68237338.TXT  27626766.TXT  67000631.TXT  45216537.TXT  46771034.TXT

No broadcasts copied at all 11435 kHz/1600z, 11530 kHz 1700z, 11635 kHz 1800z on 2/25. Will it be there this afternoon?

"Normal" operations resumed on the 26th at 2100 UTC following a couple of days of radio silence, including that morning (North American time). That means number groups with the counting numeral increasing by one* and the associated files going with them daily until an old group drops off and a new one takes its place with a new file.

* except on the second day

2/26 2100z 16180: 41151, 02721, 67664, 06313, 65376, 10343
2/27 1700z 11530: 41151, 02722, 67665, 06314, 65377, 10344
2/28 1600z 11435: 41152, 02723, 67666, 06315, 65378, 10345

The same files have been sent via winDRM format each day:
70644115.TXT
75510272.TXT
27626766.TXT
67000631.TXT
45216537.TXT
46771034.TXT

Thanks to Ary Boender who has confirmed rx of same number groups and files.
