Pirate Beacons Heard In Colorado
« on: May 28, 2022, 1445 UTC »
Hiker heard from 1400utc to 1415 utc.  Then at 1415 utc I copied this:
VVV de Sky King   UFOs Are Real sent four times followed
with Hikers second FREQ. is 6499 khz.  The was a pause and a repeat of 6499khz.
Have a nice weekend 73 and then a return to the standard beacon.
Copy was pretty solid and signal moved the s meter to S3.

Still all in all a great catch for me.

Hiker  message from Sky King: cira 2130 utc
In general the operator mentioned that he wanted listeners to post on HFU.
I could not copy everything. He said that there was a lot of rain and snow in S.E. Montana
and it was cold in the jeep.  The signal had a chirp to it and then it kinda cleaned up...
My guess is that the battery might be low...thats only a guess.
I wish I had better copy.

Wait, wait, wait...!

You're saying that Hiker's OP occasionally pauses the beacon and hand sends cryptic messages in Morse code from his jeep whilst parked somewhere in the wilds of Montana? Outstanding!

I'd sure like to catch one of these transmissions.

June 10...caught Hiker around 1200utc the beacon had a very poor note.
Then Sky King tried to send a message and the beacon would not operate properly.
A few minutes later he came back on the air and sent a message about the beacon..the CW note had improved.
I only could copy 50 percent.  I did catch that a switch was going bad.  The beacon was old.
But that was about it...
At 1340 utc I had good copy on the Utah SDR  with QSB.

The 4094 dasher  : a 1sec long dash with a 4 sec space..
I have caught this beacon two nights in a row around 0300 utc and again 1100 utc...
solid copy above the noise ...
I need to do some research on this beacon.

It sounds as if it is different than UFO.....
