Family Radio Service

Maximum power 0.5 watts (500mw), radio must have non-removable antenna. Channels 1-7 are shared with GMRS and may have higher power (5 watt) GMRS users on them. Channels 8-14 are FRS only. Most radios sold are "combination" 22 channel FRS/GMRS radios with high power (1-5 watts) on channels 1-7 and low power on channels 8-14. These so-called "bubble pack GMRS" radios often include the 8 GMRS-only simplex frequencies as channels 15-22. The vast majority of users of these radios are unlicensed. See the article for GMRS.
