Western USA
Levels of pirate radio activity in Western North America have always been significantly lower than in Eastern North America. This is likely due to the fact that the east simply has a larger population. However, there have still been several pirates to operate from Western North America. California has had the majority of such stations, also likely due to being more heavily populated than other states in the west. Pirate listening is considerably more difficult in Western North America due to the small amount of stations there (and stations from the east often propagate poorly to the west). Listening to western stations from the east is usually easier (but still difficult) than the other way around. Below is a list of shortwave pirates that have operated from Western North America. Western North America is defined in this article as the US states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming, the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and some parts of Mexico.
