Al Fansome is a pirate radio listener who lives in a trailer. Al frequently posts to the FRN and HF Underpants, and also is a regular on #pirateradio . He needs frequent reminders to check his tire pressure, but often has difficulty with the task. Al will occasionally post requests on the FRN, soliciting advice on best tire pressure practices. Some of the advice he gets is good, some not so good.

Fansome is frequently singled out for particular ridicule by pirates; for example, in September 2007, Commander Bunny called for the establishment of a Fansome-free zone.

It was widely reported that Al had died in January 2011, but this has not been independently confirmed. In fact, the reports are seemingly contradicted by Al's continued presence on irc networks.

The musical Al Fansome
Fansome has participated in several musical projects. Bootleg copies of his first album, long out of print, circulate among deranged audio collectors.

In September 2008 a bootleg copy of Fansome's first album in two decades was obtained through sources in the FRN. A comeback album, "Bajada," returned to familiar themes of heartache, broken antennas and soil erosion. Bajada was released on RamaKwanzaHannuChristmas 2008 and quickly faded into obscurity.

A rare copy of "Ventilador Aluvial", Al Fansome's collaboration with legendary Syd Barrett, can be obtained in exchange for a small fortune in angora pelts. Repeated listening of this album under the influence of LSD reportedly inspired Belinda Carlisle to launch a 10-year stalking campaign of Fansome throughout South America and China.
He has authored a number of books about pirate radio, as a search on Amazon will show, and he also produced the short-lived magazine Hobby Broadcasting, devoted to free radio. In the early 1990's, Yoder got The Knock and was busted for operating a famous station, Radio USA.
WFAT was run by the operators of former pirate WCPR. It used a army surplus transmitter with less than 100 watts of power, and a 125 ft antenna and transmtted on 1620 kHz. It transmitted from the Marborough public housing project near Coney Island. It was on the air for about 16 months before being busted April 14, 1979. Radio Free Speech with host Bill O. Rights returned to pirate radio in October 2008 after a decade-long hiatus. During the first logged return program, Oct. 8, 2008, on 6925 kHz he said: "I'm Bill O. Rights, and it's nice to be back. Let me remind you as I always have, never, under any circumstances, let the government tell you they're taking your rights away for your own good. This is Radio Free Speech, back after a 10 year absence. I'm Bill O. Rights."

Radio Free Speech operator Bill O. Rights has stated he uses a Grenade transmitter. Reportedly Radio Free Speech programs are also relayed by other pirates.

Kracker Radio is a shortwave pirate radio station that appeared in 2005 with a Halloween-themed broadcast. Kracker's shows have frequently appeared on various relay transmissions, and occasional live transmissions.

Kracker's shows are notable in that they morph widely in substance, content and name. Some of the other pirate transmissions suspected of being originiated by Kracker include:

*CBZO
*KBZO
*KRAQ
*Voice of Mike Gaukin
*Radio Jamba International
Many of these may be considered one-shot transmissions, but careful listening usually gives away the connection to Kracker's production techniques.

"Colonel" Steve Anderson (born Stephen Howard Anderson) was the operator of the quasi-clandestine radio stations KSMR and United Patriot Radio (UPR). Anderson ran these stations from his farm in Pulaski County, Kentucky. Anderson was reportedly involved with the Kentucky State Militia and the Ku Klux Klan.

In October 2001, Anderson was involved in a violent confrontation with local law enforcement, firing on an officer with an automatic rifle, but causing no injury. Shortly thereafter, the transmission facilities of UPR were located on Anderson's farm, and with the station's bust, UPR was silenced. Anderson fled into the hills, becoming a fugitive from justice.

In April 2002, Anderson was profiled on the American television program "America's Most Wanted." After a manhunt, Anderson was captured, tried and incarcerated. In 2003 he was convicted of weapons charges stemming from the confronation with police, and was sentenced to fifteen years in prison.
WPUP (We're Pot Using Puppies) was a pirate radio show attributed to Captain Ganja. WPUP was was active in 1999. The show parodied Y2K paranoid conspiracy theorist broadcasts that were active on shortwave and other mediums at the time, while maintaining a pro-marijuana stance akin to Radio Free Euphoria. WPUP announced IDs that were similar to comtemporary pirate broadcasters, e.g. "Radio Mutt-alica Worldwide" and "Voice of the Runaway Pupparishi." At least four WPUP shows were produced.
