A trailer is home to many shortwave listeners, such as Al Fansome. Trailers are also used by SWLs, amateur radio operators, and shortwave broadcasters for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to:
- Storing massive quantities of old buzzard transmitters, parts, and other bizarre technical equipment
- Providing privacy barriers against pesky neighbors, police, and FCC agents
