KVHF QSL
KVHF was a North American shortwave pirate from Santa Ana, California, active from 1975 to 1980. It was busted by the FCC at 0830 UTC on 23 November 1980. It operated on 6420 kHz AM starting in 1977 and before that used frequencies in the 60 and 49 meter bands with little success. The operators were interested in providing the best sound quality, the call sign stood for Keeping Very High Fidelity. Power was 50 watts (later changed to 250 then 1000 watts in 1980) and the studio was equipped with broadcast turntables, cart machines, a mixer, etc. Music was played from a huge collection of vinyl records and broadcasts were about 30 minutes long. Some mailpouch programs were produced. KVHF was widely heard as far as Hawaii, Massachusetts, Florida, and New Zealand. KVHF was inducted into the North American Pirate Radio Hall of Fame in 2011.
