RX4M QSL
RX4M (Radio Experiment on 40 Meters, The Voice of Clipperton) was a shortwave pirate from Washington state, USA. It was active from August 1979 to its bust by the FCC on October 25, 1980. It was the first shortwave pirate in Western North America and had an extremally difficult time reaching listeners. There were few to no pirate listeners in that region and communication in the hobby was poor at that time. It operated on a regular schedule but was still not logged in any publications until April 1980. RX4M played a variety of programming including Old Time Radio programs. Frequencies used over the course of the stations existence included 7370, 4810, 9620, 7390, and 21750 kHz AM. The last two frequencies were the last two used by the station, and 21750 could be heard all across North America and even into Europe and New Zealand. After the bust the operator claimed “We feel that our termination was premature, as we were left with enough half-hour, unused, old-time radio programs to last for the next eight years…we will return!”. Despite that, RX4M was never heard again. It was inducted into the North American Pirate Radio Hall of Fame in 2011.
