DME

Distance Measuring Equipment. UHF band aircraft radio navigation system. Often used in conjunction with the VOR/VORTAC systems, NDBs (ADF, RMI), and the ILS.
DME provides a slant range (straight line from the aircraft to the DME transceiver station - often just called the "DME station" or "DME transmitter"). DME is a radionavigation device that indicates the slant range between an on-board interrogator and a ground transponder. DME stations are often co-located with VOR stations, to provide distance and bearing information. See also:
