LRA36 (TENT) 15476 2130-2145* UTC 10/17/2014
« on: October 17, 2014, 2153 UTC »
Presumed with very weak pop music (none which I could ID) just above the noise floor using an external preamp with signal actually better on North DKAZ vs South DKAZ. Signal abruptly off at 2145 UTC. Modulation favored the upper sideband with no noticeable modulation on the lower sideband. Is this a characteristic of LRA36?  Weak carrier noted but signal best heard using USB on 15475.96 kHz.  First time catching this for me.

Congrats!

I was watching this too.  Carrier noted from 2030, trace audio from 2100.  Unfortunately, it seemed to peak here around 2115z.  Possibly a Steve Winwood tune in there.

I think you are right; USB tends to be the best bet for these guys, not that it's anywhere near armchair copy.

Thanks.  I checked again this afternoon and couldn't even hear / see a carrier.  Maybe conditions, or are these guys sporadic with their broadcasts?

Very weak, but here's what it sounded like here:

At one time they used to transmit exclusively in USB mode. I wonder if they've gone back to it?

I have not recently seen this weekends, and the current WRTH lists this as mtwtf..  So...

There definitely is carrier there, and that is generally detected long before audio, at least in the last few weeks.  Whether it is suppressed or vestigial, I don't know.

It is hard enough to get audio let alone knowing if both sidebands are there.  My logbook notes suggest that the USB is the best bet, and that is how I have been setting up the receiver if I am going to leave a recorder on for unattended monitoring.  I do believe that I have seen something in the LSB, but will keep a sharper eye open for that in the future.

That is a very nice recording!

I'm not sure but I had a great signal on 15476 AM 10/22/2014 2305 to 2315z. Which could be LRA36, I taped it and if the video is any good I'll post it to youtube.

Here is the video of the broadcast.
