Colombia: Last KW stations shut down
« on: September 02, 2015, 0719 UTC »
The last, driven by a missionary from the United States short-wave radio station in Colombia, at least for the time being turned off. The missionary had been accused by the Colombian Attorney General's office, the FARC to support (Fuerzas Armadas Colombian Revolutionary) and disseminate coded messages the FARC over its radio station.

As a supporter of the stations in Bogotá indicates the allegations have indeed proved to be unfounded. The missionary had, however, decided to suspend broadcasting until the final closure of investigations. He does not think currently on in Colombia.

The disconnected mission stations presented themselves after last information as "Alcaraván Radio" on 5910 kHz and as "La Voz de tu Conciencia" on 6010 kHz. As stated address is a "Librería Colombia para Cristo", house number 13-56 in the street Calle 46 on the eastern outskirts of Bogotá. In Street View service of Google here shows an unspecified signposted building with seminar rooms, underground parking and catering.

Possibly based on the location of the transmitter is further indication of Puerto Lleras location that is useless is not unique in this form, however. For the transmitter itself, there is a power rating of each 5 kW.

In the past, both the state radio of Colombia as well as a larger number dortiger private stations had broadcast on shortwave. Outstanding from a European perspective there was a transmitter of private radio chain Caracol on the frequency 5075 kHz, which was also in this country practically to receive regularly in the early morning hours.

Since the turn of the millennium have, like in neighboring Venezuela, the popular Colombian radio stations the distribution channel shortwave but consistently abandoned.

I hope the station isn't shut down for long.

I've heard it (Alcaravan on 5910 khz) a few times over the past couple of years -- have never been able to ID it though.
