More Weird Noises - 6925 USB - 2012-07-13 0556Z
« on: July 13, 2012, 0648 UTC »
Heys again!  Tuned in to 6925 USB at about 0556Z to hear more weird noises
on frequency, except this time they were different than last night,
but on at about the same time. The sounds stopped at about 0600Z.

I recorded a couple of minutes of the sounds I was hearing again this evening.
This time it sounds even more strange. As I am typing in
this message (0626Z), the sounds have started up again, but seem a bit more prominent now.
I have started recording again and will post a second sound clip since the
sounds seem a bit clearer now...

Here's the first sound clip I recorded from 0556Z to 0558Z:
http://www.mediafire.com/?w31i3repivy5wh5

Here's the second sound clip I recorded between about 0626Z to 0631Z:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zum8dmtpwzu8jum

So, I guess it could be one of the following:
1) The preferred digital transmission mode of banshees...
2) A SW radio pirate playing some strange noises...
3) A banshee has taken over a pirate radio station and is now making regular broadcasts...
4) ... ?

 :D

EM

Note added later: The noises have been stopping and starting, and are still going on
at 0700Z, and still coming in fairly clearly. Seem to keep stopping and then starting up again
a bit later.

I can hear the "oddity" as well in W. Texas. I have no earthly idea what this broadcast is. I have heard some folks comment that it may be some kind of digital communication and then others stating it is a pirate. I would certainly love to make sense of it. I have a really decent piece of equipment (a RigBlaster Plug and Play connected to my laptop) that allows me to decode most forms of digital communications and it is not doing a thing to decode whatever this creepy sound is. I am still not sure what the heck this could be but this sure makes the hobby even more interesting!
West Texas. Radios: Kenwood R-600, Grundig YB 400PE, and Realistic DX-440. Antennas: homebuilt vertical, 100' longwire, and 130' Inverted "V".

I just ran the files through a scientific spectrum program called Baudline.

I thought it looked familiar and sped the playback up like 15x.... I do believe we have a bird call of some sort :)

Peace!

Recorder catch:

6925 USB SIO 322-323

Fair to decent signal with some fading.  I did record 'effects' from 05:02z-06:07z, but also caught a few brief tx's with what sounds like speech with some kind of processing, but it doesn't sound like military/security type encryption.

Audio (06:48z-06:52z): http://archive.org/download/ShortwaveOddsSodsTransmissions/Unid_pirate6925Usb0648z-0652z07-13-12.mp3

Audio (07:07z): http://archive.org/download/ShortwaveOddsSodsTransmissions/Unid_pirate6925Usb0707z07-13-12.mp3

Audio (07:20z-07:22z): http://archive.org/download/ShortwaveOddsSodsTransmissions/Unid_pirate6925Usb0720z-0722z07-13-12.mp3

The earlier tx starting around 05:02z had what sounded like a het drifting around during the begining of the 'effects' - also, from a quick check of my overnight recording there was activity even later on.

I started to hear it at 4x, but at 15x we had a pretty good chaffinch ;-)

Peace!

That's funny! Good find. After hearing the sounds last night I was
fairly convinced that some pirate radio station was just playing some
strange sound effects, but didn't think to try speeding it up to see
what it sounded like.

Here's a short portion of my second sound sample from last night sped
up to 8X. It does sound an awful lot like a bird chirp:
