Firedrake 13795 Aug 19,2013 1203Z
« on: August 19, 2013, 1210 UTC »
First one I've heard since April and on a frequency I haven't heard it on before.

Its on 13795 and decently strong at about S7 (SINPO 33433). There's a station under it that it is effectively jamming. No others found 11000-17000 kHz.

Hearing CNR1 on 13820, 13860, two old Firedrake freqs.

This is the only Firedrake that I can hear direct. It is daily cited in GH's dxldyg. I think it is on Radio Free Asia via Kuwait. I check daily but can not hear any other FD's direct from my QTH. On Twente from 19 - 21 utc I find 5890  9745 & 7220 with FD's.

13820 used to be a popular one... until April.

Listened to 13795 this morning from 1205Z to 1215Z. Could've sworn it was the Firedrake, but then at 1215Z, I noticed OM & YL talking then into some calm Asian music (certainly not Firedrake). I was driving and not really paying attention until I heard the couple talking, so unsure if it was Firedrake from 1205-1215Z, or if it was just those two playing music.

I've had the same confusion about this frequency. It sounds like FD at times & then later it is most definitely not FD but it is Chinese music (I think). I see GH log it daily as FD, but I am starting to doubt it.

While I am pretending to work in my office I am checking CNR 1 jammers & FD via Twente. I find 13795 to be in synch with 13830 & before the TOH 13530 both of which are definitely CNR 1.

I reported Firedrake on this frequency & time back on 08/08/2013.

I am very sure it was FD as I listened to the total broadcast but what I think is happening is China is using both FD & their normal broadcasts to jam.  It may be because their FD transmitters are having a problem etc
Also with the screwy propagation of late The station it is jamming might well be being received by some of us...  Just a thought tho... :-)

The idea of China using two stations to jam one might be correct as I noticed that happening on the Chinese jamming of Voice of Tibet today.

While a minority of times I have still quite often heard China double teaming or even triple teaming a station with jammers.  I have heard CNR1, Firedrake, and two versions of noise jammers all hitting one station.

The use of Firedrake is greatly reduced, but still does happen on a daily basis.  It was pretty much gone for a couple of weeks (end of April, beginning of May), and then slowly came back up to its current levels of activity.
