783 Mauretania (TENT) 0238z 8/30/2013

Phasing down WBBM the best I can, I've been seeing a carrier fading in the last two nights on 783 beginning around 0200z on the SDR's waterfall.  Waiting through the fades, it will occasionaly peak to weak audio with Middle Eastern chanting or similar.  The audio heard doesn't seem to match Syria on 783 as checked against a remote receiver, so this is likely Mauretania reaching Michigan.  Oddly, not a trace of any other MW signals from across the pond right now.

Nice catch.  I wonder if it have the same programming as the Mauritanian station on 7245 khz; they have a lot of chanting going on.

I checked 7245 for a match, but there was no 7245.  Are they gone from shortwave now?  I couldn't find a working internet stream either to verify against.

In again right now at 0241z under WBBM splatter with the same middle eastern style chanting.

I guess Mauritania is gone from SW, I logged them last year, thought they were still on.

Haven't DXed 41 meters during evenings much lately, neighbor's plasma TV makes hash of it.  So Mauritania's being off the air was news to me.

According to the British DX Club's "Africa on Shortwave" August 2013 edition, "Radio Mauritania's shortwave transmitter has not been reported on 7245 kHz for a long time now".

I was able to confirm that I was hearing Mauretania last night by comparing audio to their webstream.  Though gone from shortwave, you can catch their live audio stream here: http://www.radiomauritanie.mr/rm/
