Indonesia and Vanuatu - September 8, 2024
« on: September 08, 2024, 1825 UTC »
INDONESIA. 7289.93, RRI Nabire Pro 1, tuned-in at 0758 till off about 0831 (tuned away for a few minutes and
gone when I returned), Sept 8. The usual EZL songs and announcers; started out very poor and then the normal
signal fading up to mostly fair.

VANUATU. 7260, Radio Vanuatu, 0629 till cut off at 0658:23 UT (very consistent cut off time!), Sept 8 highlights:

0629+: Vanuatu weather in Bislama; followed by my favorite RV promo, which I first heard back on Feb 7, 2012: “Hello.
I am Captain Jesse Wilson, the Mission Commander for Pacific Partnership 2,011 and when I'm in Vanuatu, I listen to
Radio Vanuatu” ( https://www.defense.gov/Multimedia/Photos/igphoto/2001164101/ ); promo for "Vanuatu Gas"; no
public service messages today.

0646+: Major item in Bislama for International Literacy Day today and also talking about the following news story:
https://www.dailypost.vu/news/library-for-all-launches-in-vanuatu-for-international-literacy-day/article_7e01941c-7aff-50c8-91fb-83507a7b86c1.html :
"Just ahead of International Literacy Day on Sunday 8 September, the annual day promoting the critical importance of literacy,
Save the Children Vanuatu is launching its ‘Library for All’ project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to provide children across
Vanuatu with access to culturally relevant and engaging books" and telling how Australia is assisting with this "Library for All" program.

Switched frequency to 3945 kHz.

3945 and 7260 do have a schedule overlap.... but 7260 had traditionally been operated later then when its signing off right now.

I really have to wonder whats with the incredibly haphazard operation of their SW outlet... frequencies disappearing for weeks at a time, schedules changing on a moments notice, etc

They also have 2485 and 5040 registered which haave never been used./

Right you are, Paul. This station certainly makes a number of erratic, sudden frequency changes. It makes
for interesting detective work to keep up with their current schedule!

BTW - 2485 and 5040, had been used briefly in the past, but certainly not recently.

My 2020 logs:

VANUATU. 2485, R. Vanuatu. Recently this frequency has been very erratic. Switched frequency from 3945 to 2485
at *1000, on March 30 [2020], but did not make their usual full one hour broadcast here; noted gone by 1052. Is often
now less than an hour here.

3945, R. Vanuatu, 0852 till blocked at 0950 by Japan, March 31 [2020]; 0852-0932, pop songs in English (Backstreet
Boys - "As Long As You Love Me," etc.); nice clear ID ("Radio Vanuatu, Vois Blong Yumi").

5040, R. Vanuatu, 0659*, March 28 [2020]. Switched to 3945, with *0700.

INDONESIA. 7289.93, RRI Nabire Pro 1, 0825-0836* UT, Sept 10. EZL songs and announcers till suddenly cut off;
better reception than normal for this early a reception.

VANUATU. 7260, Radio Vanuatu, 0558 till suddenly cut off at 0658:23 UT, Sept 10. Unusually strong signal. Some highlights:

0558+: PSA in Bislama about drinking water safety ("boil water," etc.), etc.

0600-0605: News update, along with sports news/weather.

0606+: Today playing a very nice selection of pop songs (The Mamas & The Papas - "California Dreamin" [how very appropriate!],
Madonna - "Papa Don't Preach," Haddaway - "What Is Love," B.E.T. - "Summertime in the Islands" [Polynesian reggae], etc.).

0631-0635: Public service message; intro and exit with indigenous drums; applying for the administration of the estate of a person
who died 26 May, 2023; anyone opposing this administration must file a response with the court in 28 days from the last broadcast;
message repeated again. My clear audio - https://app.box.com/s/seecch0p19csjx9p9uo7urxpkd4j356x .

0635 and 0651: Musical ID - "Radio Vanuatu . . Kingdom of Tonga . . Solomon Islands . . Voice of Papua New Guinea . . Radio Vanuatu,
Vois Blong Yumi"

Switched frequency to 3945; poor to very poor; 0701, start of news.
