Years ago, when I had an ebay account, I bought-out this dude that had like a dozen Regency RH-256, and Wilson WH-2516, -2510, rigs for a cheap price. The catch, most of these were offered as Parts-Rigs. Still, figured that I could get this package, and maybe put together possible VHF MURS and GMRS rigs. These rigs were considered cheap in their day, from early 1980's. You may have seen these back then in taxi cabs, security guard rigs, town utilities, cable TV companies, etc. They have that iconic 45 degree angled front face, with a membrane number keypad and either LED, or fluorescent, channel display. (Yes, Regency had a scanner back then that looked like these as well.) Anyway, I was able to get 1/2 of the dozen parts rigs working, four for VHF MURS & VHF Marine, and two for UHF GMRS. There is still an on-line procedure to program these rigs.
https://www.wb6nvh.com/RH256.htm It's my understanding that these VHF rigs could do 2M Amateur Radio, but I don't know if the UHF ones could go down to 440MHz. One thing that has to be observed is to be very careful of that damned, fragile, ribbon cable from main board to keypad. If successful, you can have 20W VHF High Band rigs, and about 15W for the UHF rigs. You may have to retweak both the TX & RX tuned circuits, for better receive sensitivity, (Around .35uV.), and to get the MAX out of the transmitter sections. Good luck!!!
Awh yeah... While you are there, you might as well check-out the rest of WB6NVH site.
