https://blog.zoftko.com/posts/simple-am-transmitter-mc1496/    Gees... Just about every AM / SSB CB, and a few QRP HF transceivers, had these as a main-stay from the late 1970's, through the 1980. I have several rigs that have the 1496, and we even spent a day in college talking about this IC. Still, a vary viable AM option. The other IC that came to mind around that time was the once for a Balanced Modulator.
UPDATE: Oh duh!!!! That MC1496P is the Balanced Modulator.
