New Dasher -test complete -reports received
« on: September 29, 2009, 1145 UTC »
The test was completed last night.

Thanks to all who were able to listen.
Several reports from east Coast to West Coast
all saying the same thing- weak but copyeable.

There seems to be a marked difference between even 10 Mhz and
13 Mhz when it comes to propagation. When the MUF hangs
just below the operating frequency ionospheric losses rise
quickly. This is what we would expect. As the sunspots return
and the MUF rises on a consistent basis signal levels will improve.

The new dasher will be back on soon as a bit more work needs
to be accomplished. One of these tasks will be some antenna
improvements as the vertical was hastily erected for the test.

I'll let you all know when it reappears!

Cheers!

These PHFER beacons take on a reality all to themselves.
Each beacon has unique keying characteristics and the propagation
components are very interesting.  Comparing the Echo beacon and this beacon
was very interesting. many of us have been listening for years and the knowledge
of empirical propagation has much depth.
Thanks much your contribution to this on going experiment.

She'll be back up given a little while. ;D
Its great hearing your comments because it does take some
time from other activities to pursue the experiments.
I have more ideas as time permits me to work on them.

Peace and happy listening!  ;)

Thanks for your beacon test.  We would all love to see it back on again.  I will be looking forward to it.  I did not post my report but I will say It was heard nearly 70 miles away.  I am in Gainesville and was able to here it at times during the day.

Keep the Beacons alive!
