KXNT 840kHz to go QRT 0700UTC 1SEP26
« on: September 01, 2026, 0303 UTC »
KXNT 840kHz in Las Vegas is going to go QRT at midnight 31AUG into 1SEP - that's in just a few hours.
A bulletin was sent to a couple of ham radio groups that there will be a special broadcast just prior to the permanent station shutdown. At 1145pm Pacific (0645 UTC), programming containing SSTV imagery and CW will air.
KXNT runs 25kW on a four tower array at night, with the lobes aiming SW (primary) and N (secondary) - hopefully a bunch of folks can hear the unfortunate last transmission of another clear channel going off-air forever.

I was able to hear the SSTV transmission noise at 0656 UTC/11:50 p.m. PDT here near Seattle, followed by two minutes of Morse code before the station went silent at 0700 UTC.

I first logged this station as KVEG in fall 1988, way back when I was in high school. Sad to see it go, though WHAS might sneak in here a bit more often now.
