“I am often asked how radio works. Well, you see, wire telegraphy
is like a very long cat. You yank his tail in New York and he
meows in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? Now, radio is
exactly the same, except that there is no cat.”
-Attributed to Albert Einstein, but I ripped it from the latest Splatter .PDF March 2025 issue.

I'd love to see the twisted math it took to say that digital modes of transmission use less power.  To this day, the best linear TV technology is 45% DC to RF efficiency.  Analog FM is near 80%, AM is over 90%.
This perversion of 'save the planet' justifying ever encroaching authoritarianism needs to stop, and people need to put their foot down.

I'm not sure that this is based upon a view of the whole picture. If they wish to save money energy, OK, turn off transmitters. (Whether the downside of reduced service outweigh the savings is up for debate.) But saving substantial amounts of energy by changing to DAB+ while maintaining an equal number of transmitters in operation is very, very questionable.

It's not even "authoritarianism" here; it's simply not a full view of the data.
