Would this be cool? Narrow-Band TV over Freeband
« on: September 30, 2026, 2205 UTC »
Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about a potential project and wanted to see if the community would actually find it cool or worth tuning into.
The idea is to set up a low-power, dedicated Narrow-Band Television (NBTV) station on the old 11-meter business band frequency of 27.445 MHz AM. It would probably have audio-embedded video streams running public domain shows.
The technical setup down the road would be a clean 4-watt transmitter running into a wire dipole. Since 27.445 MHz is usually a dead channel locally, I think it could be a really fun experimental utility space for the band. Listeners would obviously just need to route their receiver audio into software like BigVision or NBTVViewer to watch the 32-line frames.
Before I go out and acquire the transmitter interface, mixing hardware, and antenna gear for this, I wanted to get your honest thoughts:
• Would you guys actively hunt for a weak-signal 4-watt NBTV data stream on 11 meters?
• Do you think a scheduled weekend broadcast like this would be a cool service for the freebander community, or would the daytime skip noise just totally swallow it up?
Appreciate any technical feedback or thoughts on the concept!
Thanks,
peterpraugger

Welcome to HFU :)

That would indeed be interesting. Kinda like SSTV but faster right?
