Fusion breakthrough at Sandia Labs?
« on: September 25, 2014, 2329 UTC »
I heard a bit of it on NPR. It sounds as if it's a matter of few years fusion based power may actually be reality.

Doesn't Svetlana work there, Al?

Uh, it was White Sands, and she had to return to Russia in a hurry a while back, under "special circumstances".

Remember the old saying: "Fusion is a dish best served cold".

I recall reading recently that the costs involved in reaching the break even point were astronomical. If we want fusion power, all we have to do is set off a nuke and run a power line from it, or maybe take a trip to the sun and get some there...we could always go at night....

Actually this development looks like it will cut the costs of fusion substantially if it progresses on course.

Isn't Svetlana's brother the short guy who lives in the Kremlin? Vlad something or other?
