Video Ads "pulling" pages
« on: May 25, 2015, 0534 UTC »
On several occasion this weekend, it became impossible to scroll through posts because video adds pulled me down to the bottom of the page...
I looked helplessly for an escape but there wasn't any to find so it had me  ::)

Anyone else seeing this or is it just me in my cockpit???

No, but I have the filters on my browser set pretty tight. I have been get an unusual number of "attempted redirect" alerts on this BB for the past week despite of that.

It seems better tonight, just one of the warnings, but I've just logged in.

I had the same problem last night with RFW logs.  I uninstalled Flash and the problem went away :)

I do have a small pile of hatred for ads of any sort, but I do understand that hosting a site like this costs money.  Advertisers should keep in mind though, ads can work both ways.  If you barage me with a product I don't want, not only will I not buy it, but I'll tell my friends not to as well.  The Old Professor like to refer to this phenomenon as 'reverse advertising'.

I also had this yesterday, or maybe the day before.  I believe it was only one or two of the ads doing it.  I could refresh the page and a different ad would come up and I was no longer trapped at the bottom of the page.

Google of course doesn't make it possible to just select "disable video ads".  I made a few changes to the settings, to disable "enhanced" ads. Hopefully this will block the most offensive ads.

Please let me know if it helps.

Thank you Chris... I wasn't complaining, just wanted to isolate what was happening. I thought I hung the scroll at first!

Having been an internet provider [in a previous life], this would cause me to fix someone else's "bright" idea...

I never use Yahoo email because I'm not dating... They got between me & what I was there to do... Google will quickly learn, quicker than Yahoo...

Anyway thanks everyone...

I was also having problems with the video ads (which also caused prompts of something like "would you like to share location information with ...")

I've made some more changes to hopefully improve things. Now, if you are signed on as a registered user, you will not see Adsense ads. Just ads for radio software and some Amazon ads.

Consider this an incentive to sign up for an HFU account :-)
