"Seeing" WiFi

An Invisible World

A new app called Architecture of Radio uses augmented reality to enable smartphones and tablets to view invisible wavefronts emitted by wireless routers, cell towers, and even passing satellites.
The data is compiled from several public databases, and only represents estimates based on distance and not actual measurements. While this means that the apps doesn’t exactly turn iPhones into a precise tool for measuring and analyzing electromagnetic radiation, it remains an elucidating and educational experience.

Art and Media

The app is part of an exhibition at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany by Dutch designer Richard Vijgen.

On his website, Vijgen says that the app is reversal of the daily digital experience by “hiding the visible while revealing the invisible technological landscape we interact with through our devices.” :)

That sounds amazingly cool.

Fansome has claimed he could do the same with his X-Ray specs for years. Let's see if he's got the guts to go Karlsruhe and face off with the Dutchman.

Tell them not to let Al go to Amsterdam until after the tests, we don't want to skew the results.

Yes, I know.

I am now cultivating another talent. I think that I can look at an image, and then speak into the mike to project SSTV. This would be a major advance for my pirate broadcasts.

You're a walking marvel, Al.
