NVIS condx in CO
« on: June 03, 2010, 0302 UTC »
Been hearing several of the 8 mhz Rocky Mountain beacons today (Pike, FH ditter, and TS) in the Denver area .  NVIS conditions have been in and out through much of the day, since mid-morning and periodically throughout the day, and even at 9pm mtn time as I write this.

A real treat for us close-in guys - we will go days hearing everything BUT these closest beacons...

Very interesting conditions today.

Interesting you mention that.  I'm not a beacon hunter and have logged only a handful.  But I've noticed recently what seems to be a strong NVIS effect on HF with much poorer conditions beyond my region for anything less than flamethrower signals.  Even some of those flamethrowers - the usual broadcasters like WWCR, WYFR, etc. - are weaker than usual here.  But regional hams (I'm in N. Central Texas) are often booming in on 40m and 20m during daytime while the East and West Coast hams I used to hear in 2007-'09 are barely audible now.

You and I must be in some sort of deep hole, as the latest posting of propagation says "Gee willikers, things are booming!!!" ::)

Peace!

I'll have to get antennas hooked up between the thunderstorms and see what beacon RF is working its way to the east coast.....
