Cairo Almost Listenable!!

9540   EGYPT. R. Cairo. Italian service to Eu 1830. Appeared to be dead on-frequency today (sometimes operates between 100-200 Hz higher than this)! With clear-ish audio, I could actually identify the language although there was a background transmitter hum. Fair signal, Jan 12.

My feelings exactly until last November, Skeez. I got a clear ID from them for the first time since the late 90's. You could have knocked me over with the proverbial feather. Similar to what VK3BVW heard with some hum and only moderately low modulation.

Someone must have snagged some old TV sweep tubes at the dump for the modulator?

Off the subject a bit, but still on African SW stations. Was it the guys at Radio Chad who used to ask people to send porn for QSL's or another Sahel country? I thought it was hilarious at the time.
