some HF beacons
« on: September 18, 2010, 0016 UTC »
Hi all, here are a couple of HF beacons to try for.
They are out of Greece, one runs about 15 watts on CW.
6851.70    PRV
6815.00    SV1TEST

These are private beacons, not sure of any schedule at this point.
We'll just have to keep an ear on the freqs and with prop. getting
better we may just have a chance of hearing them.

That's a hit-and-miss over the pole frequency for me, but I'll give a listen :)

Peace!

PRV and SV1TEST Right Now

;D  After these beacons were were posted I thought great fun to try and catch.
I'm located in central Florida and at UTC 2240 to 2245 both logged the first time
I tuned to the frequencies. I see SV1TEST at 6814.99 in CW mode and PRV at 6851.70.

SV1TEST is accompanied by some adjacent frequency weak ssb or AM signals. There
is also a carrier that seems to appear on and off near SV1TEST so that may ruin reception
until it disappears or propagation changes. It seems to buried since the steady carrier
appeared. There may be a broadcast station associated with the carrier.

Are you sure that these are low power? Especially PRV which is quite good! ???

I thought that just before sunset conditions might be best, but well before sunset these
are heard. Fortunately with sunlight the noise is tolerable

Hopefully someone else will report them!

Thanks for the tip! Neat logging!

Cheers

Hi all, did some checking on these two beacons. The PRV is a 15watt tube type xmtr  but I can't fine
any info on SW1TEST at this point. I'll keep checking on it, right now I have a lot of tv crude on 6815khz.
I have been listening to PRV for almost a half hour now, it has a pretty decent signal at this point.

I contacted the beacon PRV operator via email!
Besides letting him know about hearing his beacon I
also inquired about the SV1TEST if by chance he knows
the operator or location. I'll post any information I get
on SV1TEST with permission.

PRV is in here again this afternoon at 22:05.
Its not loud yet but quite a good copy.
In cw mode at 100 hz width i'm hearing it best at 6851.78 Khz.

I'v been hearing it for the last 15 minutes+ without a problem
and its slowly building strength on up and down characteristic
slow fades. Now tape recorder quality at 15 watts!

Give it a try east coasters!

It's now 22:15 and signal is building!

I got a very nice reply from STATHIS who is the owner of the PRV beacon.
He  is quite the equipment builder and if you appreciate home built gear
here is a co-ordinate worth a quick look or two.

I did ask him to describe the PRV antenna and maybe share a few photo's.
We'll wait and see what transpires if anything.

I have heard  PRV 6851.70 (GREECE) every afternoon and evening that I remember to listen.
It seems to do very well for a 15 watt transmitter, though I have not heard
anything about the antenna installation.  Last evening with the sun well above the
western horizon (around 1930 UTC) it was 100% copyable. Static bursts were still in at s9+.

Can anyone else offer comments on their reception experience?
