Space Bunny Radio 6880 AM 1505 UTC 27 SEP 2017
« on: September 27, 2017, 1505 UTC »
UNID pirate station
IDed at 2043 UTC as "Space Bunny Radio"
Frequency: 6880 kHz 6.880 MHz 6.88 MHz

Strong and wide AM audio with severe deep fades at 1505 UTC tune in.  Seems like the "daytime guy" sometimes heard on 6925 kHz AM.  6880.0 kHz seems to be one of the more commonly used "alternate" frequencies to 6925 kHz.

1506 UTC - The Eagles - Take It Easy (clip)
1512 UTC - signal down significantly :(
1513 UTC - switched to NY based SDR to hear "Save The Last Dance For Me"
1514 UTC - The Supremes - Where Did Our Love Go? - S6/S7 signal with fading on NY SDR
1521 UTC - Dion - Runaround Sue
1522 UTC - Bill Haley and his Comets - Rock Around The Clock
1525 UTC - "please please stay just a little bit longer"
1527 UTC - some selective fading...was peaking at S9 for a little while
1529 UTC - The Platters - Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
1534 UTC - The Overtones - Goodnight Sweetheart
1537 UTC - The Shirelles - Mamma Said
1541 UTC - minor SSB QRM
1543 UTC - dead air (unmodulated carrier) for 5 seconds or so, then back to 1950s music
1737 UTC - REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You
1738 UTC - huge signal increase, back up to S9 and full quieting really strong AM modulation sounds like a broadcast station
1739 UTC - Thus Spoke Zarathustra
1741 UTC - another 5 seconds or so of dead air, into Nena - 99 Red Balloons (clip)
1742 UTC - John Cougar - Hurts So Good
1744 UTC - minor fading but still really good copy
1817 UTC - Pink Floyd - Echoes
1930 UTC - still rocking the Pink Floyd over an hour later with "Atom Heart Mother" S6 signal with some minor het QRM
2025 UTC - crickets chirping...OM and YL having a (rather cheesy) conversation about interesting characters
2026 UTC - "and yes...I wept..." followed by very sad and dramatic music
2028 UTC - "who is afraid of the big bad wolf" - "poker" "trying to get rid of a body"
2030 UTC - "one last dream..." "what would it be like to die while you're completely tripping balls" talking about dying while on drugs
2031 UTC - "here I am...with a boy in a trailer park..." [crickets still chirping in background]
2033 UTC - OM talking about being "steamed up" "tip me over" "pour me...another drink" (heavy breathing in background)
2038 UTC - church bells ringing
2042 UTC - "you may now switch on your mobile phones", then OM and YL talking
2043 UTC - Space Bunny Radio ID with email address into - Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me
2045 UTC - have SBR at S4 locally with local QRN, stronger signals on Northeast USA/New England area SDRs
2046 UTC - somebody flipped on their amplifier...now pushing S9 (on the remote anyway) - S5 locally
2051 UTC - Police - Every Breath You Take
2052 UTC - even better audio now on the local RX
2055 UTC - Michael Jackson - Beat It
2100 UTC - Steely Dan - Peg
2105 UTC - strong utility (likely ALE sounding) QRM on the LSB (seemed to be on 6875 kHz USB)
2113 UTC - mash-up or remix of "Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple
2115 UTC - still sitting at a solid S9 with great audio
2123 UTC - dance track (Earth, Wind & Fire) with some minor fading
2127 UTC - "The Breakup Song" (dance remix)

6800 AM
2200 UTC, been listening for awhile via Penisylvania SDR. Booming 10 kHz wide signal. Nifty remixes of Sabbath, Led Zep and, atm, Martha and the Motels "Only the Lonely". Nary a peep via the home receivers in Texas.
2217z: Off after 2001 Space Odd theme

Switched the radio on at 22:00 to hear Also Sprach Zarathrustra at sinpo 21322 ... shame I missed it all!
Just another disenchanted radio ham, first licensed in the 1970's, returning to his roots.
