My suspicion about the curtailing of French and English broadcasts by DW on shortwave unfortunately has been confirmed.  My curiosity was peaked when I reviewed the B-17 schedule.  I listened to their final English broadcast on 28 Oct, sent an email reception report, and inquired about language broadcasts.  This is the response I received (note: German is also not on the B-17 schedule):

Thanks a lot for your reception report and your email request.

As from B17 schedule we do not transmitt english and french anymore on shortwave. Both languages are now available on FM in Africa only.

A QSL Card will be send to you soon by airmail.

Kind regards,

Andrea Schulz

Glad I QSLed them when I did. I also happened to catch them on the 28th, out of pure luck.
