One advantage of doing this, even if you don't actually get on the air, is you help prevent  a power line carrier system from starting up near you - which means it cannot cause you QRM.

Thanks for the heads up. Although I'm not a ham, perhaps I should let the ham guy down the street know about this. He has more trouble getting out / receiving with his ham rig than I do with my DX-398 and indoor wire.

        Hell yeah!!!! I just did it, and y´all should too. And even if you never intend to use those new LF / MF amateur bands, do you have those plug-in innercoms? They use the Part #15 1750M Experimenter´s Band from 170kHz - 190kHz. So, if you apply with intention to use that band, you are not lying. Here in WV, one can not bitch enough about the power line noise here.
