Voice of Nigeria

7255 (7254.94 carrier) AM 5550Z 05MAY19
Was looking for HAM dx last nite and the strongest and pretty much only bcaster on the band was Nigeria, with an S9 peaking sig in the clear. Female singer till interval sig @ 0600Z and then news by om in presumed Hasua. Looked in the anniversary (2009 and final) issue of Passport To World Band Radio and it showed Nigeria at this timeslot as I didn't have a pc fired up to check who was sposed to be on the air, nice to see Passport still relevant.

I heard it too, found it at about 0552z with music sounded like American Christian Contemporary until 0557z when it switched to interval signal, then OM announcer mixing with another bit of broadcast music that happens in between news segments usually, but was happening concurrent instead. I switched it off then because I needed to get some sleep.

I thought they were gone from that frequency it had been so long since I heard them due to the sun giving us the cold shoulder? They're always a good marker for propagation from West Africa.

Who knows where the signal's bouncing under these conditions, but personally, there's no more dependable African transmission to copy than this one, especially now that Meyerton is closed. If I'm up at that time, it's almost always there.

Au and NZ fax are often coming in on 11MHz during North American night, so propagation is there, you just have to look for it.
