11/23-24/08 MW logs from N. Central Texas
« on: November 30, 2008, 1903 UTC »
With HF conditions so iffy, seems like a good time to try MW DXing.  Interesting late-night stuff.  Most seems to be skywave (all via fugly homebrewed coax loop on Palstar R30C).

11/23/08 Sunday, 1 a.m. local (0700 UTC)
1080 kHz AM unid (with local KRLD nulled), long set of pop music heard before fade out, never heard a clear ID?
0700 UTC: 'Dawn' - Frankie Valli/Four Seasons
0718 UTC: Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett
0720 UTC: Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Frankie Valli (lots of Frankie Valli on this station)
0727z: Always Something There To Remind Me - older version
0729z: Play Me - Neil Diamond
0731z: Oh, How Happy You Have Made Me
0740z: We're All Alone - Rita Coolidge
0743z: Silence Is Golden - not sure if Frankie Valli/Four Seasons or other
0745z: ID obscured, commercial about foreign language lessons (mention of French language), DJ promo for upcoming Beatles or John Lennon song
0749z: Song with "Arizona" in chorus
0751z: Imagine - John Lennon, barely audible, KRLD stronger now
0758z: Knock Three Times - Tony Orlando/Dawn
0803z: ABBA ("Depend on you..." etc.)
0808z: Everlasting Love - more Frankie Valli?
0811z: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me
0815z: The Way We Were
0817z: Herb Alpert/Tijuana Brass instrumental
0819z: Diamond Girl - Seals & Crofts
0825z: You Don't Have To Say You Love Me - Dusty Springfield?
0827z: Partial ID, jingle sounds like "...hits of the 80s..."?
0828z: Copacabana - Barry Manilow
0832z: It's in His Kiss
0833z: La Bamba - Los Lobos version

11/24/08
1070 AM
10:50 pm (0450z) - KFTI "The Ranch" (Wichita, Kansas) with classic C&W music (some more pop-oriented), ID.  Fade, mixing with KNX (California), possibly one or two others.

1220 AM
11:30 pm (0530z) - Unid pop/rock, KC & Sunshine Band, Stones, Lovin' Spoonful, Beatles.  Faded before ID (weaker under Spanish language station, possible Mexican ID), KZEE not audible.  (An odd frequency at night, always an S9 dead-air carrier, possibly from local KZEE, "Asian Hot Pepper", which goes to low power at night.)

1660 AM
Usual flip-flops between classical music on KXTR (Kansas City) and sports on ESPN (TX)
(KXTR audible 11/26/08 at 4 p.m. local, earliest I've heard them this year.)
That li'l ol' DXer from Texas
Unpleasant Frequencies Crew
Al: Palstar R30C & various antennae
Snoopy: Sony ICF-2010
Roger: Magnavox D2935
(Off-air recordings.)
