Radio Vanuatu 11835 AM 0603 UTC 16 Aug 2020
« on: August 16, 2020, 0634 UTC »
I needed a break from my kids (I'm watching them by myself for 10 days, and young teen/tweens are maddening at times!), so I came downstairs to my radio and flipped on 11835 kHz to check for Vanuatu's harmonic.

Conditions have been noisy at night lately, so I've not heard Vanuatu either at all or beyond a hint for a while, but it was holding audible above the noise tonight with talking in Bislama and musical interludes in between. I compared it to audio from a New Zealand SDR to make sure I was hearing Vanuatu instead of CNR2, which was audible in the background.

By 0630ish UTC, the audio was starting to fade back into the noise.

Vanuatu also has an online stream that's live. That was how I confirmed reception the one time I had any audio at all. The carrier is generally there any night that I look for it but I've had (low) audio only once.

I've used the VBTC livestream at times to compare what I'm hearing, but hearing it via the SDR in New Zealand syncs the audio closer to what I'm hearing here on my radio.

The audio was coming in OK again last night (Aug. 17 UTC around 0600 UTC). As with you, I can almost always hear the carrier at night the past several weeks on 11835 kHz, but hearing any intelligible audio depends on conditions.
