I don't know anything about Jesse Kelly, nor his political talk show based out of Houston. This morning I heard promotions for his syndicated program coming to 50,000 watt WTIC AM 1080 beginning January 4. A little research showed WBT (Charlotte) and WRKO (Boston) have decided to broadcast the program as of Monday. Apparently, Key Networks has made the program available through syndication since April 2020.
The promotions indicate Jesse's morning program will be aired (delayed presumably) at 7pm weeknights, which had been Clark Howard's time slot. WTIC has not updated its webpage as even a former sports/personality host is still listed.
What I find odd about the broadcasting rights is that WTIC has been a 50 year plus affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. During the baseball season Jesse Kelly's program may air once a week. Why would a nascent syndicated program enter a new market knowing that for half the year there would be exceptionally limited terrestrial radio coverage? With the knowledge that 50,000 watt WTIC has broadcasting rights, it will probably discourage other New England/East Coat stations from purchasing the program even though it won't air often on WTIC. Puzzling 🤔
