Most of this stuff went years ago. And what with Auntie's rolling upgrade process they were probably able to move departments one at a time into the new space at New Bush House.

However, the BBC and many other large broadcasters are all moving to Television City in Manchester. It's a purpose built facility with HD studios and combined office space. With greater emphasis being placed on contracted programming (radio and TV) large facilities are no longer necessary. TV City will pool the resources of all the broadcasters in an effort to cut costs.

As Granada is now the biggest UK broadcaster owning the most regional independant stations they were able to persuade their investors that TV City was the right way to go. It is turning out to be everything they had hoped.

Perhaps this could be a topic at the Fest next year?

Sheldon Harvey take special note.

R. Peter Straus, Radio Pioneer, Dies at 89

Under Mr. Straus?s leadership, WMCA in New York broadcast what were regarded as the first radio editorials and political endorsements.

Not true...there has been a big ongoing online auction and there's an enormous amount of vintage equipment from various eras and ephemera on offer. I'll see if I can find the link.

And I think the "unofficial" auctions started long before that....years ago, Ken bought a piece of recording equipment (small item, don't remember what it was) off eBay. When it arrived from the UK, he was very surprised to see indicators that it came from Bush House. He contacted the BBC and found out the equipment was stolen-he packed it up and returned it to Bush House.
