All I know from other DXers is that the Vault apparently uses a quite high dipole.  It maybe that the antenna is raised for low angle (long distance) and lowered for more high angle radiation (short distances) radiation, but propagation at 6985 khz these last 24 hours have not allowed for short skip during the daytime.  I do not think the Vault uses a directional antenna, like a yagi, because the signal seems to radiate to all directions, but very well at low angles for long distance....

Switching to narrower broadcast AM bandwidth would help bring an AM signal above the receiver noise level at long distances and low signal levels....
