String of (seemingly) random tones...
« on: November 29, 2012, 1248 UTC »
Is there a data mode that sounds like a string of 20 to 30 random tones? I just happen to turn on my beside G5 (with just whip) last night--11/28/2012, around 0200 UTC--and caught this on 3575 (+/- 5). It seemed there was a run of notes every couple of minutes.

I'm pretty sure I've posted something about this in the past either here or on the FRN.

Thanks,
Erik

I found this in another post by Paranoid DXer: "Probably JT65 digital mode... the watering hole is 7076 + offset.  It sounds like a bunch of musical tones..."

It probably is JT65 as 3576 is one of the freq. used for this mode like 7076

This is what I caught the other day on 7077.5 LSB:  http://archive.org/download/ShortwaveOddsSodsTransmissions/Unid7077_lsb0052z-0054z11-02-12.mp3 and vinoul knew right off what it was.
